Getting the Motorola SLVR L6 to work with iSync

One of my favorite things about the German language is its use of single, if overly complicated wrods to denote an emotion. Schadenfreude for example, refers to the joy one feels at the misfortune of others. Unfortunately, I don’t believe there is a Germanic word to describe the rage one feels when a new toy doesn’t play well with your other ones.
I recently bought a Motorola L6 “SLVR” via a somewhat convoluted process. The new SLVR phones are not widely available in Canada, yet as a confirmed technophile, I had to have one. I dashed off to the rendezvous with my supplier at a poorly-lit train station outside of Vancouver and made the transaction. On the train, back into Vancouver, I popped in my Rogers SIM card and powered on — things were looking good, until I got home that is.
Pairing the phone with my iMac was easy enough, though as soon as a fired up iSync, I was told, rather casually, that my phone was unsupported by iSync. I glared at the oblong silver phone as it sat inert, mocking me. As with many problems, there are often solutions to be found, usually by Googling them. “SLVR L6 and iSync” turned up an Edinbugh-based PhD student named David Reitter.
Reitter has created and released an iSync plugin for the Motorola L6 phones. I downloaded the plug-in, installed it and then restarted iSync. Lo and behold, my L6 sprang to life and downloaded my contacts and appointments. It took me a good few hours to figure out why it only appeared to copy certain phone numbers for my contacts, though this problem turned out to be operator error.
If you have, or are considering purchasing an L6 phone, Reitter’s plug-in is freely downloadable and PayPal donation supported.

Got something to say?

I downloaded Reitter’s plugin, but how do I make it work with iSync?
damn, why havent i found this post before? but anyways, no need for reitters plugin/driver anymore. update to 10.4.7 and everything works! check it out
I still have a problem with syncing the L6 with Mac. The plug-in seems to work, but downloads gobbledigook rather than names into contacts. Can anyone help?
