Use these shortcuts if your computer appears to “freeze.” Also known as the “Spinning beachball of death.”

Stop a process: ?-period (.)

Force an application to quit: ?-Option-Escape

Turn off your computer: Power key

Force some computers to shut down or restart: ?-Option-Shift-Power key

Force the computer to restart: ?-Control-Power key

Toast 7 -Download


Toast version 7.1 is now a universal binary application, and also addresses the following issues:

    Previewing Apple Lossless audio files in Audio CD format no longer causes a -50 error.
    Resolves QuickTime Movie video export issues – related to the QuickTime 7.1 update.
    Resolves menu button highlight issues on Toast authored DVD-Video discs – related to the Mac OS 10.4.6 update.
    Canceling the User Authentication step during the Toast Setup Assistant no longer causes a -60007 error.
    The rename file field now moves correctly during scrolling up and down.
    The content window no longer incorrectly scrolls when no horizontal scrollbar is displayed.
    Resolves issues related to invalid characters in Mac Only, Mac & PC, and DVD-ROM UDF formats.
    Resolves issues related to Music DVDs – audio playing back too slowly and static sound with some files at higher quality settings.
    Resolves issues related to AppleScript – script was causing a -43 error.
    Media Browser now correctly parses a YesVideo DVD with still images.
    Includes an updated version of Deja Vu which preserves existing symlinks

Apple releases iTunes 6.0.5

Apple today released iTunes 6.0.5 via its Software Update Utility and as a standalone download. Apple says, “with iTunes 6, you can preview, buy, and download music videos, short films, and hit TV programs on the iTunes Music Store, and sync your music and purchased videos with iPod to enjoy on the go.”

“iTunes 6.0.5 allows you to sync your Nike + iPod workout data to nikeplus.com, where you can easily track your progress, set training goals, challenge others, and much more. Apple today has released the MacBook Pro 17-inch SMC Firmware Update, Apple says, “This SMC Firmware Update adjusts fan behavior in the MacBook Pro 17-inch.” And is recommended for all 17 inch MacBook Pro users.

Use these handy shortcuts for the Dock in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

Change the size of the Dock: Drag the dividing line in the Dock

See the Dock shortcuts menu: Control-click the Dock background

See open windows in an application: Press the application’s icon

Add an open application to the Dock: Press its icon and choose Keep In Dock from the pop-up menu

See an item in the Finder: ?-click the item’s icon in the Dock or Press its icon and choose Show In Finder from the pop-up menu

Switch to another application and hide the current application: Option-click the icon in the Dock

Switch to another application and hide all other applications: ?-Option-click the icon in the Dock

Quit an open application: Press its icon and choose Quit from the pop-up menu

Force quit an application: Option-press the application icon in the Dock, then choose Force Quit from the pop-up menu

Force an application to open a document: ?-Option-drag the document icon to the icon in the Dock
