Apple Support Document Hints at International iPhone Release

June 30, 2007 | 2 Comments

Upon scouring through Apple Support Documents related to the iPhone I came across this tidbit of information:

iPhone complies with the safety standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment, IEC 60950-1.

This safety standard has been adopted by many countries and is referred to as the following:

* UL 60950-1 in the United States
* CSA 60950-01 in Canada
* EN60950-1 in Europe
* AS/NZS 60950:1 in Australia and New Zealand.

This excerpt is from a Apple Article ID: 305695 which is related to battery charging. It seems the iPhone is ready to go international anytime. We are just waiting for Apple to give the green light. Hopfully it is sooner rather than later.

9 Ways to Improve the iPhone

June 30, 2007 | Leave a Comment

While we can all agree that the iPhone is living up to expectations. Here is 9 features that I would like to see added or developed for the iPhone.

1. Cut & Paste. This should have been included from the start. Or maybe Apple engineers could work their magic and make it Pinch & Paste?

2. The ability to use your own songs as a ringtone.

3. Wi-Fi file transfer. I mean c’mon I need an easier way to fill up that 8GB drive than emailing documents to myself.

4. iChat. Pretty soon everyone will have an iPhone. Wouldn’t it be cool to iChat over Bonjour with your iPhone.

5. Spotlight search. iPhone runs on OS X, so why not include Spotlight?

6. The ability to purchase music directly from iPhone at the iTunes Music store. Although I have heard rumors that this feature will be implemented along with the ability to purchase ringtones online.

7. Removable battery. Some of us are heavy smartphone users and are not always within reach of a place to charge our phones while on the road. An option to purchase a spare battery would be good.

8. Video Camera. There is a 2 megapixel camera included with the iPhone. How come you can only take still images? And what no zoom?

9.Apple should have broke the mold and offered the iPhone unlocked from launch. Just think how many they would have sold if people didn’t have to break their existing contracts. Although I am guessing AT&T greased Apples palms a bit in order to have an exclusive contract selling the iPhone.

Phoney is a simulation of an iPhone web browser. It has been made by Marketcircle and has been placed as an open source project on Sourceforge.

Phoney has been designed to provide a test platform for developers looking at making their websites and web apps iPhone compatible. It does this by showing a “pixel accurate, full featured browser” that renders a web page in the same way that an iPhone will.

This update bring Phoney to version 1.1 and has a zoom to fit feature as found on the iPhone.
